Demand

up to 45

Log scale on monthly searches. National: 1,000 is 20 points, 10,000 is 30, 100,000 is 40. Local reports use the city's own searches on a lower scale.

Gap

up to 35

18 points when no dedicated directory ranks (9 with one, 3 with two, then minus 4 for each further one), plus 4 per beatable slot in the top 10 (a content page from a domain under 10k visits a month, up to 12), plus 5 when an open page has at most one aggregator, minus 2 per aggregator beyond three. A page owned by directories scores below zero. Business sites are not beatable slots.

Supply

up to 20

Businesses available to list nearby: 300 or more is the full 20, 100 is 15, 30 is 8. Ideas without a location get a neutral 10.

After the report

From a validated idea to a live directory in minutes.

Every report ends with a "Build this directory" button. It opens Directify with your plan loaded: categories, fields, tags and sample listings are generated for you, and you can import the real businesses from Google Maps right after.

Questions

What is DirectoryBuilder?

A free research tool for people who want to build a directory website. You type a niche, and it reports real search demand, who already ranks, how many businesses exist to list, and a plan to launch. It is made by the founder of Directify, a directory website builder, and the only account it ever asks for is optional.

What does "Sign in with Google" access?

Only your name, email address and profile picture, to create your account without a password. We request no other Google data and never post or read anything on your behalf. You can also sign in with an emailed link instead.

Where does the data come from?

Search volumes and keyword difficulty come from Google Ads keyword data. Competition comes from the live Google Search results for the money keyword, pulled when the report runs. Business counts come from Google Maps. The plan section is drafted by an AI model from those numbers.

How accurate are the numbers?

Search volumes are Google Ads averages for the past 12 months in the report's country. Traffic estimates are modelled from rankings and are best read as orders of magnitude. Business counts are Google Maps listings within about 20 km of the location.

Why are reports public?

Running a report costs real API calls. Making every report public means the next person with the same idea gets it instantly, and the library becomes a useful map of which niches are open.

Can I use the report without Directify?

Yes. The report is yours to use with any tool. The build button is there because it is the fastest way to go from plan to live site, not a requirement.
